01About the challenge

Challenge for Impact is ZEBOX's flagship startup competition, and in 2026 we're bringing it to Vietnam for the very first time in the Asia-Pacific region. Run with CMA CGM Vietnam, it gathers corporates, startups and the local innovation ecosystem around real, current business challenges in maritime, logistics, media and adjacent fields — with one goal: move from strategic priorities to concrete, actionable Proofs of Concept.

Each challenge sponsor puts forward one real innovation priority. ZEBOX scouts and pre-selects relevant startups; only qualified, solution-ready teams are invited to pitch. Shortlisted startups present to a jury and join targeted work sessions. At the end of the day, each sponsor selects one solution and commits to launching a Proof of Concept with a clear follow-up plan.

This competition is embedded inside France Vietnam Forward, a high-visibility event led by the French Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (CCIFV) and La French Tech Vietnam. Finalists gain access to a high-level innovation ecosystem. The call is open to solution-ready startups with a working product, globally.

This year's challenges come straight from the operational priorities of CMA CGM Vietnam and its partners. You apply to the one that best fits your solution.

ICD/Depot equipment allocation: Unlocking inland efficiency and customer value

Context and current issues :
Today, ICD/Depots location are assigned by CMA CGM without fully reflecting customers’ actual warehouse locations or operational needs. This frequently triggers depot change requests, creating manual rework, additionnal trucking costs, and operational complexity. The result is inefficient container positioning, suboptimal inland flows, and a degraded customer experience.

Solution proposal :
Implement a customer‑data driven recommendation tool that identifies warehouse locations and dynamically proposes the most suitable ICD based on cost, distance, transit time, and congestion. Customers receive an intelligent, real‑time location and equipment recommendation, with the flexibility to adjust based on their needs and cost requirements.

Expectations and benefits for users :
For CMA CGM :

  • Improved container positioning and seamless operation
  • More efficient inland flows with reduced equipment changes and depot related costs
  • Strategic use of customer data, including monetization opportunities

For Customers:

  • Lower trucking costs and optimized inland distance
  • Simpler, more transparent depot allocation
  • Greater control and improved experience

Market constraints: accuracy of the data, changement management, neutrality perception, capacity limitation at peak seasons)

Barge navigation predictor: for optimization of barging operations

Context and current issues :
Today, Inland barges serving main river ports are frequently delayed or idle near terminals due to congestion, berth unavailability, weather, and fluctuating water conditions. The lack of real‑time visibility and predictive planning prevents barges from synchronizing arrival with mother vessels, compromising final loading operations. This disconnect results in missed connections, low utilization of barge capacity, equipment idle time, and loss of schedule reliability across the inland–maritime chain.

Solution proposal :
Deploy an intelligent real‑time barge journey and berth optimization tool integrating traffic, weather, river conditions, and port congestion forecasts. The system would dynamically propose sailing speed, arrival sequencing, and berth allocation to align barges with vessel schedules.

Expectations and benefits for users :
For CMA CGM/GIL/GMD etc :

  • End‑to‑end traceability of barges and containers
  • Optimized inland flows and reduced idle equipment time
  • Improved synchronization between inland services and ocean vessels

For Customers:

  • Higher reliability of final loading onto mother vessels
  • Reduced delays, rollovers, and last‑minute disruptions
  • More predictable inland transit times and delivery commitments

Market constraints: Coordination between river ports operators, data quality, local behavioral, trust and governance)

05FAQ
Who can apply?

Solution-ready startups — local and international — with a working product addressing maritime, logistics, media or adjacent challenges. We welcome companies at any stage, as long as you have something real to demonstrate, not just a concept.

Do I need to be in Vietnam to apply?

No. Applications and the first pitches are fully online. If you're selected as a finalist, you'll join us in person for the live final in Ho Chi Minh City on 1 October 2026.

What does the winner get?

The challenge sponsor commits to launching a Proof of Concept with the winning startup, with a clear follow-up plan — an opportunity that can lead to a commercial contract or a long-term partnership. You also gain visibility and credibility alongside CMA CGM and ZEBOX within the regional ecosystem.

Can I apply to more than one challenge?

Apply to the challenge that best matches your solution — one application per challenge. If you're unsure which one fits, get in touch before you submit.

Who owns my intellectual property?

You keep your IP. Any terms tied to a Proof of Concept are agreed with the sponsor before work begins.
